THE STATE OF SHOCK Slovenia-Bulgaria-Serbia-Macedonia-Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2011, 93 min, feature film

Labor Day, May 1, 1986, in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. At the metalworking factory "Socworker", Peter Zmazek is awarded the "Best Worker of the Year" award and finally receives a municipal apartment. Peter is so shocked when he receives the apartment that he falls into amnesia and begins to dream of his socialist paradise. And because his condition does not change in the slightest, he is soon placed in a mental institution.

 

When Peter emerges from his amnesia twelve years later, reality has completely changed. His wife has remarried his best friend, the children are grown up, and his homeland Yugoslavia is no more. Everyone is striving to become European, everyone wants to become capitalists at a rapid pace. Peter takes matters into his own hands.

 

A dark comedy about capitalism and the changing values ​​of society over the past 20 years, which have completely transformed Eastern European countries. A story about the loss and rediscovery of the power of honesty

Andrej Košak

Andrej Košak graduated from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is a film and television director, screenwriter and lecturer. His debut feature film broke all national box office records, received several international awards and became a key element in the so-called Revival of Slovenian cinema. His second film is an adaptation of the novel by the established Slovenian writer Drago Jančar. State of Shock was selected for the Equinox Screenwriting Workshop, the Co-Production Market at the Berlin Film Festival and the Screenplay Market at the Cannes Film Festival.
