LEAVING Czechia, 2011, 94 min, color

The film already has a place in the history of cinema: it was made by a former, world-renowned president and a seventy-four-year-old debutant. The plot takes place only in the garden in front of the government villa, which is inhabited by former Chancellor Rieger with his mother and younger daughter, as well as his long-time lover Irena and her friend Monika.  The author does not hide the theatricality of the original, in which, in addition to the traditional emphasis on absurdity, grotesqueness and existential overlap, he uses a significant amount of self-irony. The film, in which a number of Havel's friends and acquaintances from among actors, artists, and politicians appear, thus allows a much larger number of viewers to become acquainted with the last play of a famous personality, and moreover in an authorial interpretation.
