Maks Pinter, a successful lawyer from Zagreb, acquitted his client, the rich and powerful Dinkо Horvat, of the indictment for double murder. At the party, a drunk Maks tells Dinkо that he is a cold-blooded killer of workers who only came to ask for their wages. A clash with one of the pillars of society will make Max undesirable. He will lose his partner and clients, his wife will leave him... With the help of Nina, his love from his student days, Maks will embark on a revenge campaign. On the other hand, no one in this story is completely innocent and everyone is deeply intertwined.

Rajko Grlić

Rajko Grlić

Rajko Grlić (1947) is one of Croatia‘s leading directors and screenwriters. His work has received international recognition. He graduated from the celebrated FAMU film school in Prague in 1971. In 1978, his film “Bravo, Maestro” was included in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival. One of his most powerful early films, “You Love Only Once” (1981), was banned from public screening by the official authorities in Yugoslavia. For the film “Just Between Us” (2010), he received the award for best director at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. His film “The Constitution” (2016), which raises questions about identity, prejudice, and tolerance in a divided society, has won numerous international awards. Grlić’s style combines psychological depth, social criticism, and subtle humour, often exploring the relationship between the life of the individual and social upheaval. He uses a realistic approach, a clean visual language, and delicate irony to highlight the contradictions of Balkan reality.

Rajko Grlić received The Sofia Award in person on March 22, 2025 at the 29th Sofia International Film Festival.
